Mstislav Rostropovich: Cellist, Teacher, Legend: Elizabeth Wilson
- £25.00 (Hardback)
Synopsis:
In Class 19, Rostropovich was surrounded by an atmosphere of rapturous admiration, if not complete adulation. Whatever he did or said was received with delight and accepted without question. For his part, the class was a 'creative laboratory', an extension of the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, where he regularly performed in concert. An amazing and unique feature of the class was the quantity of new music played; practically everything he performed was studied and brought to class. This included concertos by Shostakovich, Khachaturian, Britten and many other works. In class he could experiment, check out and develop his creative thoughts, and enjoy himself in the process while entertaining those present.
