A Messiah of the Last Days: C. J. Driver

Synopsis:

Tom Grace is a pragmatically efficient London barrister living in a comfortable family house overlooking the Kent weald. But his neatly ordered life is about to be shaken apart by his involvement with a young man he defends in court - John Buckleson, the demagogic, charismatic leader of a commune. Though deeply divided in many ways, the two men are attracted to each other by a common dream of creating a new social and moral order.

The central theme is realised in the context of Grace’s world of courtroom procedure, the suspense and details of which are entirely absorbing. A Messiah of the Last Days, political in the most profound sense, is concerned with widely differing voices but is unified by its comprehensive image of contemporary English society.
