Little Nell: Simon Gray

Synopsis:

It wasn't just concealment. She lied outright. She said that Charles Dickens died when she was a child.

Forty-five years old and married, Charles Dickens falls passionately in love with Nelly Ternan, an actress almost thirty years his junior. They begin a long affair which ends only in Dickens' death in 1870, so that when, eventually, Nelly marries, she has thirteen clandestine years to explain away. In 1922, her son determines to uncover the truth.

Simon Gray's Little Nell is a heartbreaking detective story about the great Victorian novelist, his little-known mistress and the legacy they left behind.
